    [GSM/Wireless] Share 3G Access via Wireless using Integrated 3G Router & Access Point

    Posted by admin on 14th December 2009

    Traveling to some areas that having no internet connection for an IT People is like salt less food :)
    Never hoping dedicated line or any wiring connection once you have arrived.

    Anyway, Internet Mobile through GSM [Either 3G/GPRS] is a good choice to have there.
    Virgin Broadband is one of them.

    An Easy Setup Process gives you a quick installation lead time.
    Here the steps [Please Insert your SIMCard]:

    1. Check Your Connection Status

    2. Enable Lan & Wireless Bridge

    3. Configure DHCP Servers

    4. Configure You GSM Connection [cellular]

    That’s All, you have to do.
    Anyway, I didn’t find any of WPA / WPE Wireless Security Features for Wireless Network Authentication.
    But for sure, Virgin Broadband it self can only covers in 10-20 meter radius.

    [IPv6] Mikrotik Hotspot Not Working - IPv6 Installed on NIC

    Posted by a. Rahman Isnaini r. Sutan on 1st September 2008

    Till now I don’t have a good solution for running IPv6 simultanously with Mikrotik Wireless Hotspot.
    The condition :

    - Your LAN has a dual stack IPv6 / IPv4 installed
    - You have to connect to Mikrotik Hotspot Gateway Enabled
    - Your first access is browsing and will be redirected to Mikrotik Login Page

    The Issue :

    No matter you LAN NIC UP/DOWN or we can say connected or not..
    With IPv6/IPv4 Dual stack installed, Your Wifi status is Connected but You have error page “Address Not Found” while trying to browse to log in.

    What I have done :

    Uninstalling IPv6 on Your NIC will help much.
    The redirected login page, will be nicely appear waiting for your to enter username & password :) It’s not happened on my another wifi network.

    Warung With WiFi (W3) Jogjakarta & Mac OS Users

    Posted by a. Rahman Isnaini r. Sutan on 10th June 2008

    Never thought Hotspot only available at Mall or other exclusive public places at Jogjakarta (like Cafe, Restaurant ect).

    Captured from Kompas last weekend newspaper, shows that there so many W3s (Warung -Kopi/Nasi- with Wi-Fi) which located most of everywhere around & the corner this Keraton City. Warung Kopi considered as small coffee cafe with facility as is (seadanya).

    The WWW (W3) concentrated areas
    - Near Colleagues,
    - Near Kontrakans (a house which contains rooms that leased monthly by student)
    - Near student hangout places.

    I’m not really sure either warung owners invest at their own and pay their bandwidth or having other partners for providing this connection.
    The users most of them student since Jogja is pretty know well as City of Student.

    Interesting thing to look at the picture, You’ll see users are using products & one Nokia Communicator “ON” on the table, which means those products is not now limited to “exclusive & expensive” users or even places. No more !

    Untuk lokasi-lokasi Hotspot dapat dilihat di Blog Mas Sunu Wibirama (Thanks Mas Sunu, saya numpang link :))

    * TX Power : 26dBm, +/-2dB
    * RX Sensitivity : -97dBm +/-2dB
    * Antenna : Integrated 10dBi Dual Pol + External SMA
    * Outdoor Range : over 15km
    * TCP/IP Throughput : 25Mbps+
    * Max Power Consumption : 5 Watts
    * Power Supply : 12V, 1A (12 Watts). Supply and injector included
    * Power Method : Passive Power over Ethernet (pairs 4,5+; 7,8 return)

    * Operating Humidity : 5 to 95% Condensing
    * Shock and Vibration : ETSI300-019-1.4
    * Weight : 0.4 Kg

    This high gain & high power unit has been tested as Mikrotik Access Point’s (RB 133 & RB 532 A) Radio Client.
    Equipped with power up to 600 mWatt, this unit can work pretty good in the range 1000 meters away from access point with Near LOS (NLOS) condition.
    And mounted only at House’s Wall in the front side (needs a fine unit adjustion to have a better signal).
    The Housing are is an open air area.

    For LOS condition up to 15 km as shown above (not yet proven here).

    The throughput at 1000 meters away is arround 9 Mbps maximum (either tx or rx).
    The advantage is Antenna & Radio integrated, and POE port.

    Another test has been conducted for Housing with trees and hills landscape.
    For 500 meters range with trees covered and down to the small valley (4-5 meters), this NS2 works better than Senao/LinkSys client.
    While Senao/Linksys hasn’t received any signal at all, this unit connected to AP with 3 Bar of wireless strenght status.

    3 Bar wireless connection strength status on your laptop would equal to arround -67 to -70 dB signal strenght.
    This would be enough for a normal data connection to transmit/receive.

    The price : NS2 here in Indonesia Rp. 1.200.000 (USD $1300 +-).
    Web price : NS2 USD $76 (how come ? :)), You know Tax, Vat, Shipping, Custom… Reseller Margin… ‘inserted’ till reach end user.

    RT-RW Net Technology using Access Point / Wireless

    Posted by a. Rahman Isnaini r. Sutan on 19th May 2008

    RT/RWnet Technology can be wired by UTP house to house with limited distance (up to 100 meters).
    Or Wireless.

    Wireless allows end users mobility.
    The limitation is :

    - Coverage
    - Walls
    - Trees
    - Power Regulation
    - Health Concern

    Regardless above conditions, using Mikrotik with Atheros / Asus WL 520 gives you 25-30 meters coverage or up to rear rooms in house (type 45/90) user in that range.
    The test was using Omni Hyperlink Antenna with 15 dB Gain.
    More than 30 meters, you will need Radio Client with default Antenna for In House Internet Usage.
    More than 500 meters, you will need Radio Client with external Antenna on roof for In House Internet Usage.

    See picture :

    It might be installing more BTS / Poles for Access Point in every range 40 meters could decrease cost per user.
    And Access Point Signal Density getting better.
    Mikrotik with Ubiquity is more powerful, Asus WL 320 GP either powerful.

    Spam / Junk SMS XL Bebas

    Posted by a. Rahman Isnaini r. Sutan on 2nd May 2008

    As what everyone who received any unwanted information from their mobile operator (assumed as SPAM/JUNK) denies this type of promotion, so do I.

    XL bebas as we know one of prepaid card from XL sending sometimes any unwanted information, and has been discussed and told among bloggers. Pak Hasnul said that only few customers who did complains regarding this spam, included me I believe among of them :)
    My perspective yes, 818 or other information center can send the ‘general’ sms. But please have the ’selected ones’ not promo. Selected means useful, helpful, urgent.

    Positive side is still the low cost tariff (Thanks to XL) and there many other operators claimed their similar low cost call/sms againts “zero, zero, zero,… dot One” Rupiah. And of course much better than what we have been used and called for many decade of years “SLJJ”…

    Another things to concern ? here are they :

    - Network often busy (oversubscriber / BTS / Backhaul congested)
    - Urgent Call Only
    - Noise Talk & Low Quality
    - Voice Compression
    - Redirect to VoIP Network (with QoS)
